Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen return home, confirmed by food truck surveillance footage showing them buying macaroni carbonara and cheese, and by a private taxi driver who drove them back to 1122 King Road. - November 13, 2022, around 2:00 a.m.:
Dylan, Bethany, and Maddie are gathered in what used to be Kaylee’s bedroom on the third floor while Kaylee gets ready for bed, according to statements from surviving housemates. - November 13, 2022, around 2:10 a.m.:
Dylan texts the private driver asking if he is still driving. The driver responds at around 1:13 a.m. that he is, but there is no further communication as the girls decide not to go to the food truck. - November 13, 2022, between 2:15 and 2:30 a.m.:
Dylan, Maddie, Bethany, and Murphy go downstairs to the second floor. Dylan goes to her bedroom, while Bethany and Maddie take Murphy outside via the kitchen sliding door to the bathroom. Soon after, Bethany goes inside, leaving Maddie outside with Murphy. - November 13, 2022, around 2:35 a.m.:

Both girls are afraid to go upstairs. - Around 11:55 a.m.:
Emily, joined by her boyfriend Hunter Johnson, goes to the house to check on the situation. Hunter and the girls go upstairs to the second floor, where Hunter tells the girls to get out and exits himself. He instructs them to call 911, having realized upon seeing Xana that she is deceased. Shocked, Hunter leaves the discovery to law enforcement. - At 11:57 a.m.:
A call to 911 is made from Bethany Funke’s phone. - Shortly after 12:00 p.m.:
Law enforcement arrives, discovers the bodies of Xana, Ethan, Madison, and Kaylee, declares a crime scene, removes everyone from the house, and begins the investigation.

- Bethany Funke, Emily, Hunter, Dylan, a friend of Bethany who arrived after the 911 call was made and the victims were discovered
- Jack Decour, Kaylee’s ex-boyfriend, is believed to be the person seen sitting in the law enforcement car after requesting privacy and a moment alone.
- Arriving from the stairs on the side of the road is believed to be Ethan Chapin’s brother, Hunter.
The first responding officers at the scene appeared deeply shocked and distressed by the discovery of the victims. In those initial moments, they seemed to lose sight of their training and professional composure, visibly overwhelmed and taking the tragedy personally. One officer is seen exiting the house and then immediately re-entering, uncertain of what to do, illustrating the profound emotional impact and devastation experienced by law enforcement in the face of such a horrific scene.
Some have commented on the officers’ handling of the crime scene, suggesting it was unprofessional not to immediately treat the surviving girls and the victims’ friends on scene as suspects. However, it’s important to note that this video was taken shortly after the 911 call and the officers’ arrival. The officers followed standard procedure by removing everyone from the immediate crime scene and directing them to remain across the road until further instructions. They promptly began interviewing those present and taking notes. None of the young students showed visible injuries or had any red stains on them, and all appeared visibly shocked, shaken, and emotional in response to the tragedy.
Dylan Mortensen is seen speaking with an officer during questioning, consistently keeping her hands visible and gesturing as she talks—at no point does she attempt to conceal her hands. Meanwhile, Bethany is wrapped in a blanket, clearly shaken and visibly upset by the situation.
On the negative side, the video shows that some law enforcement personnel at the crime scene are not wearing gloves and are seen touching the banister rails while moving up and down the stairs inside the house. Despite the understandable shock, this lapse in protocol should not have occurred, as it risked compromising potential evidence.
