We believe that remembrance is not just about telling a story—it’s about honoring the unique lives and personalities of those whose stories we share. The design of this website reflects our commitment to celebrating the individuality of each victim and respecting the wishes of their families.

The Meaning Behind Our Colors

Every color used on this website was chosen with care and purpose. When Ethan Chapin was born as one of triplets, his mother dressed each child in a different color to tell them apart—Ethan’s color was blue. In his memory, blue features prominently throughout our site, symbolizing not only Ethan’s favorite color but the special way he was cherished by his family.

The other colors in our gradient backgrounds represent Madison, Kaylee, and Xana. Each hue is inspired by the vibrancy and uniqueness of these young women, reflecting their individuality and the joy they brought to those around them. By weaving these colors together, we hope to create a tapestry that visually honors each life—distinct, yet forever connected.

The Logo: A Symbol of Unity and Remembrance

Our logo is also a tribute to the victims’ individuality and unity. The design connects the first initials of their names—K with Z, E with M—and stacks them, with KZ above EM, with Kaylee’s first initial matching Maddie’s first initial gradient colour, while Ethan’s first initial matching with Xana’s gradient colour. This configuration symbolizes the special bond the four shared as friends, as well as their unique identities. The use of gradient black and white outlined strong fonts speaks to both the gravity of the loss and the enduring brightness of their memories.

A Thoughtful Approach

We are mindful that terms like “Idaho 4” are often used by the public and media for recognition, but we strive to center the names and stories of Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin throughout our website. Our design is intended as a visual extension of this philosophy: every element is chosen to honor who they were as individuals.

Our Commitment

By sharing the inspiration behind our colors and logo, we hope visitors understand the depth of care that has gone into this site. We invite you to remember not only the group, but the remarkable people whose lives were lost—each with their own favorite colors, moments, and dreams.
